Louisville Brothers Launch HOWE Real Estate Commercial Real Estate

Daily commuters passing through Butchertown have certainly noticed a few changes in the cityscape. Scores of redevelopment projects have brought new life to one of the city’s oldest neighborhoods. And one such development is home to a new venture by brothers Scott and Stewart Howe. The brothers have joined forces to launch HOWE Real Estate, CRE.

Though they walked very different paths toward careers in commercial real estate (Scott, as an artist, coach and small business owner, and Stewart charting the corporate waters in major markets) they are looking to team Scott’s knack for envisioning the potential in those “diamond in the rough” properties with Stewart’s affinity for untangling complex deals to make their mark on Louisville.

Though they’ll engage across all avenues of the commercial real estate spectrum, HOWE Real Estate will specialize in rehabs and developments that contribute to the fabric and history of the city, not homogenize it.

One such redevelopment is their headquarters, located at 1604 Story Avenue. Starting as a dilapidated 100 plus-year-old storefront, it’s now standing proud on the edge of Butchertown’s renaissance, a community revitalization effort that Scott, and now HOWE Real Estate, is deeply invested in.

With 1,200 square feet of office and 2,300 square feet of high-end residential space, this property embodies the mission of HOWE Real Estate. Famously Lutes’ Meats in the early 1900s and most recently a vacant, burned eyesore, the building is now a vibrant mixed-use space that contributes to the rising corner at Frankfort and Story Avenues alongside Butchertown Social, Lupo, Sergio’s World of Beer and the yet-to-be-named business coming to 1600 Story Ave.

“There’s a certain magic in old buildings,” said Scott. “When they’re given new life, they have an incredible power to transform the community around them. I love helping clients see the potential in properties begging for a rebirth.”

Working in Louisville real estate for the last five years, Scott Howe, partner and principal broker, has established himself as an expert in Louisville’s urban core: NuLu, Butchertown, Portland and Downtown. Together with his wife, Mo McKnight Howe, he’s contributed to a vibrant urban community through ownership of local arts mecca, Revelry Boutique Gallery in NuLu, and owning and operating a host of hip Air BnB rentals.

Stewart, who recently returned home after a 10-year career with stints in Chicago, New York and Jacksonville, has spent his professional career cutting through red tape in major markets to negotiate land deals for Clear Channel Outdoor. Most recently, he served as Vice President of Real Estate and Public Affairs for Clear Channel Outdoors North Florida Market.

“Both our dad and our grandfather found success in commercial real estate. I guess you could say we’ve come full circle with the opening of HOWE Real Estate,” said Stewart. “Louisville is on the precipice of a major urban renewal.
